Warmer winter in Cosy Devon

PLYMOUTH homeowners are being given the chance to insulate their properties for less.
The recent freezing temperatures have left many homeowners and private tenants in the city out in the cold but they are now being offered insulation free or at a heavily discounted price.
The scheme is being run by CosyDevon, backed by Plymouth City Council, citybased Energy Action Devon and energy supplier Eon.
Under the regionwide initiative loft and cavity wall insulation will be free for anyone over the age of 60, people on benefits and for households earning in total less than Pounds 18,000 a year.
Bethany Redley, of the Plymouth-based Energy Saving Trust advice centre, said: “Insulating our homes is the best way to protect ourselves against future cold snaps such as those we have experienced lately. “It keeps homes warmer and easier to heat, so saving us money on fuel bills.”
Insulating a loft could save homeowners around Pounds 150 a year on heating bills as well as reducing CO2 emissions, she said.
Members of the scheme will be on hand to offer Plymouth residents advice and guidance about insulating their home during an event at Drake Circus next week.
They will also be offering energy efficiency tips for keeping homes warm and cosy, including drawing the curtains early in the evening to keep heat in, installing a more energy-efficient boiler and using heating controls properly.
CosyDevon will be at the shopping centre on Thursday and Friday, March 11 and 12, along with members of the city council, Energy Action Devon and the Energy Saving Trust advice centre.
